Practical guide

Reduce the gambling ads you see.

Blocking a casino website and removing its advertising are different jobs. Start with the advertising controls available to you, and check their limits.

Limit gambling ads on Google and YouTube

  1. Sign in to the Google account you use for Search and YouTube.
  2. Open Google My Ad Center and choose Customize Ads.
  3. Open the Sensitive tab and limit Gambling.
  4. Confirm the selection. Check that you are using the same signed-in account on your devices.

This is a preference for supported Google services, not an all-web gambling-ad block. Google explains that some references can still appear and that signed-out activity and search context affect what you see. Read Google’s current instructions and limitations.

Check the places ads appear

A browser new-tab page, a video platform and a news website may use different advertising systems. Changing a Google preference does not change every publisher’s ad settings. Review the controls offered by the service where the ad actually appears.

For Firefox’s new-tab page, Mozilla documents controls for sponsored shortcuts and stories in its new-tab customization guide. Those controls affect the new-tab experience, rather than every website opened in Firefox.

Where a platform offers a hide or report action, use the option that accurately describes the ad. You can also leave promotional email lists through the sender’s unsubscribe link.

Why a website blocker can leave an ad visible

A casino page may use its own gambling domain while its advertisement is delivered by a general advertising network. A website filter can refuse the casino destination while the image, sponsor message or video clip still loads from another domain.

An image with no advertiser information is harder to identify than a labeled casino link. A promotion included inside an ordinary video or livestream is harder again. No claim that all gambling ads are removed follows merely from having a long website blocklist.

What WagerLock offers today

The current public Windows download blocks listed gambling websites for your chosen duration while trial or paid access is current. Browser search-result and gambling-ad filtering is in development and is not yet a released feature of that download.

WagerLock does not currently promise to remove every gambling advertisement, image, livestream promotion or video sponsorship. You can use platform ad controls alongside the website blocker. See how website protection works and how it differs from self-exclusion.
